Scripting News: Coolest thing my father did (Scripting News)

Now I'm just imagining what Dave Winer the teenager was like. It is sort of interesting that you chose to be drinking wine, I would think that some hard liquor, or just plain old beer, would be more "cool". Nonetheless, I think it is fantastic that you are putting all of your dad's photos and content online, a great thing to do so we can all appreciate what he did.

Pretty good chance I was also doing acid and smoking reefer too. But those aren't quite as obvious as drinking wine. And as I reported -- I stole the wine from my dad, he wasn't a beer drinker, and I thought, even then (for other reasons) that hard liquor was pretty unclassy.

Love this story and the ways people express their love by their actions rather than the words "I love you." Loving acts are a rich, sweet vein of love

I should ask the obvious question: why were you drinking wine before school? :-)

Surely you could have waited for a special event, like Gen X did before athletics or swimming carnivals.....not that I know anything about that :-)

    Good story BTW.

Yes. I was drinking wine before school.

I was an idiot -- or put it another way -- I was 15 years old. :-)

I think I had Cotter for something like Mechanical Drawing:-)

You realize this is the entire epitaph for Joseph V Cotter on teh WWW?

This incident with the wine is the only record that he ever existed.

Somehow I knew it would come to this, but of course at the time I didn't
    know about the web.

    Heh. :-)

No offense, Dave, but there has to be some back story to this. I can't believe your father thought it was ok for an underage kid to be drinking on school grounds BEFORE Home Room, or at all at that age, for that matter! But then, I'm guessing you thought it was cool while you were a kid at time, even though you now understand that is WAS wrong. Keep up the fun blogging though.

Well Rune we'll never know the back story. Dad died on October 3 and took
his side of the story with him to the grave.
