Lots of sites (NY Times, Salon, The Register, etc.) have lots of links - I don't click on all of them, either. Maybe you could factor that in your equation?

Re: Losing followers on Twitter? (I know, that's pathetic...) I originally thought it was something I said that caused twitter to disconnect me from everyone--a comment in which I ironically quoted spam I received.

Re: Losing followers on Twitter? Some people manually auto-follow to repay the favor of being followed, so to speak. The @LPI_Library feed that I follow always does a "hello @____, thanks for following" message for their new followers. I notice that sometimes the Twitter user they are addressing is the same Twitter user that I just blocked because it was a spam account.

Re: Losing followers on Twitter? I don't do twitter, I don't have anything important enough to say, but I follow Twitter RSS feeds (yours is one). I don't show up in the counts, but I'm a follower. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Re: Losing followers on Twitter? Interesting. Over on FriendFeed I'm seeing tons of people complaining about losing not just followers, but people they used to follow. Also, many users have now reached some sort of cap on # of people they can follow.

Re: Losing followers on Twitter? I lost all my following/followers except for two that I added last night. This included Leo Laporte, Robert Scoble, Patrick Norton and a bunch of information security pros. I've lost about 20 of the folks that I was following and about 20 of the followers. I still see plenty of spammers in my followers. Epic failure for a service like twitter if they can't get it fixed. With no way to back-up your social graph, you could never trust them again.

Re: Losing followers on Twitter? I woke up this morning and heard @Sarcomical talking about it, but no one else was. Then when I logged into the web interface of twitter.com, I noticed my follwer numbers went from 200 to 172.

I'm suspicious that perhaps Twitter is removing spammer accounts from the site because I've noticed more spammer types following me over the past couple months. Perhaps they've been taken out of the picture.

@bytefulcom

Re: Losing followers on Twitter? Turns out my list of People avatars was correct. I used that list to re-add the dropped following people. Granted I am following only 39 people and 5 were dropped, so it was easy for me to do. Only pattern I could see in the dropped following is that each one dropped is someone I started following in the last month. Might be a pattern or might be a coincidence.

Re: Losing followers on Twitter? Not large numbers but a drop nonetheless. And no action from me either. I'm adding the 5 dropped from the following list myself as soon as I figure out who they are. I already identified one who is a good friend of me. Strange part is he shows up in my People avatar list but not in my following list.

Re: Losing followers on Twitter?
