It reminds me of an Apple product in the way it was packaged, and the way each function seems to have a real purpose. Plus, it's touch sensitive, kinda like the iPhone. Mostly it's just a great watch and does what it's supposed to.

Re: Lost my watch (Scripting News)

I've long thought that Swatch are the iPod of watches Dave. Or, more correctly, since Swatch were huge long before the iPod was born, I've long thought of the iPod as the Swatch of music players :)

Re: Lost my watch (Scripting News)

Well as a lot of people alrady have pointed out, a watch isn't really _necessary_ (and then again nor are iPods). But both gadgets are a pleasure to own and both fun as well as useful.
If you are a watch user, I'd suggest a venture into the world of mechanic automatic watches. Classic timepieces with a "heart" carefully assembled by craftsmen. May I suggest the Jazzmaster Viewmatic 40 from Hamilton? (www.hamiltonwatches.com)

Re: Lost my watch (Scripting News)

G-Shocks are tanks but they have 9000 different functions. For something that is durable, does what a watch is meant to do well i.e. tell time and is somewhat of a cult classic, I would say look at a Seiko Monster. The Orange Monster is LOUD and probably less likely to misplace.

If you want something a little nicer, I'm partial to a Rolex Submariner. Classic lines and does the timekeeping job just fine.

Re: Lost my watch (Scripting News)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Novena-...

is a mp3 player voice recorder wrist watch you might be interested in

Re: Lost my watch (Scripting News)

Some nice watches:

http://www.tokyoflash.com

Re: Lost my watch (Scripting News)

I like the Casio's that REI sells, but it is a mountaineer thing with the altimeter, most of all I like the 24 hour barometer graph.

Re: Lost my watch (Scripting News)

I've got a Casio G-Shock with solar recharging and automatic time synching (so it's finally the same time on your watch and on your computer clock). For me, it's the iPod of watches as it's bomb-proof, sets the time itself, and the battery has lasted many years even though I have 3 daily alarms that run the full 10-15 seconds each time.

Re: Lost my watch (Scripting News)

"What time is it? Perhaps the iPod shuffle will morph into something you wear that also tells time. And downloads podcasts over the air. And has voice recognition. I was seeking the answer...

In the meantime, my left wrist feels *wrong* without a hefty piece of metal wrapped around it. I keep having this panic impulse, similar to the feeling when walking around without a wallet in the predictable place.

It's a feeling, not logical. I'm accustomed to having time always easily accessible, and getting out the cell phone (it's downstairs right now) is too much work to find out what time it is. I put a clock on my computer desktop and on the wall. I guess inside I must at some level need easy access, or *feel* I need it. Obviously I can survive without always knowing what time it is.

Also in my head is the constant question "What Did the Mets Do?"

But I've trained myself to accept that I don't know (and usually don't really care)...

Re: Lost my watch (Scripting News)

Don't know about the iPod, but it appears Microsoft has the Zune...

http://www.vnunet.com/vnune...

:-)

Re: Lost my watch (Scripting News)

btw, found your blog via joel (on software). looks good - i've subscribed. cheers.
