You've been so supportive of identi.ca on your blog, and identi.ca has cloned the Twitter API, so supporting it is dead easy. But still Bit.ly only has support for Twitter. Why? tr.im has support for both! Please, please add support for identi.ca! Or better yet, support for any Laconica installation!

Re: New UI for bit.ly (Scripting News)

The API was broken for a bit due to an unexpected change along with a change in the URLs for info (switch from info.php to info).

This should have been better communicated prior to change.

Re: New UI for bit.ly (Scripting News)

Can we get it in Twhirl? I love the tracking, but the bookmarklet and website are one step removed from the tool I and a lot of people use.

I think it also might increase the analytics you get on the back-end if you can get more "long-url-share." However, I am not sure the end-game here so that may not be motivation.

New interface brought me back. Good job!

Re: New UI for bit.ly (Scripting News)

A great tagline would be "Another place where size matters."

Re: New UI for bit.ly (Scripting News)

Agree. I'm trying to get better at CSS, but find that tables still continue to work better, especially where IE 6 compatibility is concerned.

Re: New UI for bit.ly (Scripting News)

We'll look into this.

Re: New UI for bit.ly (Scripting News)

1. definitely, we need to fix that.
2. just made the index page compatible with old bookmarklet. Would like to get feedback on each of the new ones if you would like to try them.
3. disagree about password confirm--maybe banks need this, but personally think it's old school.
4. we need to be clearer on this.
5. disqus integration is a good idea
6. RSS coming soon! 100% agreeed

Thanks for the feedback.

Re: New UI for bit.ly (Scripting News)

New version seems to be working fine for me, but the site crashes Opera.

Re: New UI for bit.ly (Scripting News)

Pretty sloppy mark-up (tables? really?). I was hoping this would be fixed when I saw the new design. UI is an improvement, however.

Re: New UI for bit.ly (Scripting News)

Argh. Never had a problem with Bit.ly before today - now it keeps crashing and crap. Not happy Jan.

Agree with #2 - old buttons should have at least worked temporariy and given us opportunity to "upgrade" VERY bad experience there.

Twitter post is a neat idea. Rename it Bit.Twit to make sense. Seems to take forEVER to post to Twitter - I mean who has an extra 20 seconds nowadays. But it does take a moment, and in that time I've "reposted" 2 or 3 times. I'm sure Twitter doesn't need more crap being sent to it.

Short 'n Url'ys is a much better tag line. ;)

Tried to use my Bit.Twit bookmark - failed. Get some vague error screen with no help or option to click on and try again.

Overall. Good attempt. Could do better.

Re: New UI for bit.ly (Scripting News)

I can see where what I wrote might be confusing, and welcome the opportunity to clarify.

1. Rule #1 says -- No Breakage. (And there's a funny corollary if you happen to work for me, Rule #1a -- Don't Break Dave.)

2. They did break any user who used the old bookmarklet, which included me. Therefore they violated both rules. (Which is my rule, the guys at bit.ly might not know it.)

Re: New UI for bit.ly (Scripting News)

Don't you mean it *doesn't* violate rule #1? If it doesn't break, that's a good thing, unless I missed something.
