Instead, he was shot at the age of 25. I miss him so very much. The shooter? Off on a technicality and at large. Very disturbing.

I'm very curious as to how you got such a tour. I toured Folsom with my friend who worked there a few years ago and it was so disturbing. I was told that the men cry at night because they are both cold and hungry. It's hard not to have compassion both ways.

Best, Jeanne

Re: Our all-you-can-eat lifestlye (Scripting News)

Very thoughtful and thought provoking. Here's my writeup of the San Quentin experience: http://friendfeed.com/scobl...

Re: Our all-you-can-eat lifestlye (Scripting News)

Interesting post, Dave.

A very different blog post than usual, one almost without purpose or point. That's the beauty of it.

A wonderful experience to share.

Re: Our all-you-can-eat lifestlye (Scripting News)

I have followed your blog over many years. It seems like you have seized opportunities in your life - health issues, death, and other challenges - to open up your heart. That is a beautiful thing to watch. Thank you for sharing openly, Dave.

Re: Our all-you-can-eat lifestlye (Scripting News)

Oh Dave, thank you for this piece. It is interesting how one moment in life can shift our path in life. Choices. These people of San Quentin certainly made theirs. I am struck that you are doing this life experience after just loosing your father. I lost my Dad 5 years ago this upcoming Thanksgiving. We are now members of a life club we never wanted to join for sure. My heart is with you as you move through the journey of mourning, and turning inside to reflect on experience like this... perspective. Thank you for a good read this Sat. morning.
All my best, Stef

Re: Our all-you-can-eat lifestlye (Scripting News)

Wow. This is intense. Is it strange that now I want to go visit a prison.

Re: Our all-you-can-eat lifestlye (Scripting News)

Remarkable post, and particularly resonant for me, having recently lost my own father. Loss and grief did not lock me up - instead I noticed that I'm more sympathetic to others than I was.

Re: Our all-you-can-eat lifestlye (Scripting News)

You have a remarkable voice.
