I'm really surprised that Twitter didn't do something to scale up for the increased load. They need to be able to deliver on days like this.

    Upstream.tv as well.

    Sorry, "ustream"

Yes, HD quality. Maybe now Netflix should worry a little. :)

I don't think so -- they have HD too, and a lot more of it, and you don't have to wait 30 days after release on DVD.

And it's implicit that Apple's distribution method has DRM, no??

For those of us that haven't made a BluRay bet yet, this is a good way to get HD movies. I have viewed a few HD OnDemand movies from my cable provider, but it's not an optimal experience. They have the same 24 hour restriction as well.

They would have to have some type of DRM, because it's rental and they have to control the rental period. It's not "legal" to copy a rented DVD, so I can't see why you'd expect them to rent a DRM free movie.

I agree the selection is starting off slim, but I couldn't believe Jobs admitted they got it wrong the first time. I remember when the Netflix selection was relatively small (I was an early Netflix customer). It will be telling to see how fast they can scale the selection, and how diverse they get. That to me is the real value with Netflix. Except for super obscure movies, I can usually get what I want there (though there have been a few exceptions, some quite surprising and not that obscure, like Treasure of the Sierra Madre). Reminds me I need to check on that...

Hey I just said its implicit that it has DRM, I didn't say what I thought about that.

It's only HD quality from an Apple TV. This is really lame for those of us with a Mac connected to an HDTV.

It said that you can browse and listen/watch podcasts solely via the Apple TV. Thats a big thing for me.

Hei, I read your post during keynote and I'm back here again to check comments... Didn't you previously said that you were gonna buy the new device this week?
    :-)

Yeah, true. I did say that. And then I thought about all the hassles and expense, and I've got Mac fatigue. 2007 was a fun year, I spent a lot of money on Mac stuff, and then found at the end of the year that they're a shit company that treated me like shit. Left a really ugly feeling, really sore about that. So when I thought of all the extra expenses, a second battery, AppleCare, and then the likelihood that the fucker was going to break, and then I'd be stuck waiting for a repair wondering where my data was going, I thought maybe I won't be so quick this time. Also the fact that the stock market looks like it's about to crash probably contributed to the feeling. :-(

I don't think Apple is going to get good deals from content providers until there is a more even market distribution across media, Apple agrees to less favorable terms, or some outside event forces companies to offer content to itunes.

Hollywood is scared of the net, but they are especially cautious of Apple.
