She says it's irritating. She says the guy is a doofus and that she is mean, and DOES need to go on a diet.

Re: What do you think of this ad? Maybe I'm missing something. Or maybe it's because I am always skeptical about what "the box says." Like I tell always my son: "don't believe commercials, they are just lying to you to try to cheat you out of your money."

To answer the post about how we Americans watch TV with commercials... As an American who has spent a lot of time in Europe and knows what TV is like without constant commercials I have one answer - DVR. The only thing I've watched on live TV in the last couple of years is the election coverage. Everything else I watch on DVR and skip through the ads.

Re: What do you think of this ad? This commercial will give you all the hints you need.

Frankly it is a shitty, very transparent commercial that will only appeal to women with some confidence or maybe even anger issues. What General Mills is telling us is that there are a lot of people like this, and they have money and are deciding how to spend it.

Re: What do you think of this ad? Judging by their media fare (AbFab, most of the BBC stuff), the Brits have alcohol down pat and all drink like fish. Just the other day I watched an Inspector Linley episode where the hero shared three (3!!) bottles (BOTTLES!!) of wine with a woman over the course of an evening date, and then managed blissful sex with her. Frankly, I'm thinking they would have had a drunken argument about erectile dysfunction instead, or she would have been passed out and never noticed a thing.

(Just doing my best to offend British people here! Why stop at gender? ;-) )

Cheers, mate!

Re: What do you think of this ad? They could just be 30 something roommates.

no dumb husband stero-type, just dumb male ones in that case.

Re: What do you think of this ad? I like watching Larry King Live. It is so annoying to hear that poor guy keep having to say things like 'We'll be right back after this' and 'Don't go away!'
How embarrassing for a great presenter to interrupt his fine program for a hard sell on some inconsequential product. I guess he has to say it about ten times or more each show. And guys like all you Americans and people like me have to just take it.
There will come a time when we are all brainwashed into watching TV for the ads and resenting the programming as a pesky interruption to our enjoyment of the Cheerios (etc) message again and again and again ....
If you think I have a 'thing' about ads, you're right. I do. Does it show? Really? I must still be sane and not brainwashed then.
Think about it people. It's your brain and your intellect they are £%(!%& with.

Re: What do you think of this ad? (Scripting News)

It's a dreary ad. I don't live in the US, but I have in the past. I don't know how you Americans can sit at home watching TV that is interrupted every few minutes for ads. I gave up watching TV in the US when I was there. Only DVDs.
I think that without realising just how deeply and often they were being screwed Americans have yet to rebel against this kind of broadcast pollution that ruins all TV and radio material. Don't you realise that you pay a lot more than you should for the products you see advertised because the ads are very expensive? So you actually just lie there and get screwed over twice with each ad you watch or listen to. Once for being intruded on with a distraction from what you were watching or listening to. Twice when you go out to buy anything you see advertised. IF you compare any company's yearly spend on advertising with its annual revenues, you will get an idea of just how much the ads you are forced to endure are also costing you a fortune on an annual basis.
Now is it dumb to tolerate being treated like such a willing doormat, or is it dumb?
Americans, get control of your media and the prices you pay. Send advertising into extinction. You'll enjoy your TV and radio a hundred times more and you'll save a lot of money.
And please don't buy that crap about ads paying for what you watch. Believe me, you would save much more with ad-free subscription TV service.
Asked and answered I hope.

Re: What do you think of this ad?
